Artist Statement
Back Bend is a continuation of a series of acrobatic dancers that I have been working on within the past few years. These figures explore fluidity, balance and strength within figurative forms.
The marks on the surface represent knowledge and scars that are formed as we grow and experience life and all that it encompasses. It is through this knowledge that we grow, become resilient and adapt to change.
Bio
Informed by life and nature, Lillywhite’s work incorporates the use of light and shadows, positives and negatives and contrasts as a way of expressing a sense of depth and form. She likes to show a sense of emotion within her work and finds horses and figures a great way to portray this and often use these as her subject matter.
